Discipline is also about civilizing your child so that they become fit enough to live in a society. Kids are the most restless and inquisitive individual and when it comes to disciplining them, there is no quick fix and no magic bullets to help you with shortcuts. Here are a few tips to help you balance between disciplining kids without being a drill sergeant or a pushover.

Children tend to follow the tried-and-tested incentive method. They are innocent enough to distinguish between the rights and wrongs. Motivating them to finish their chores and later rewarding them of their superb performance will go a long way. Such tricks also make your child adopt a goal-oriented outlook in life.

Make rules...
It's up to you to make clear what's expected of your kid and what isn’t. Discuss rules only when it has been broken. Explain the rules of the house when you can speak clearly and the kid is in a good mood to listen.

Stick to the rules...
Be consistent about the rules. Not enforcing your own rules puts everything you say into question. It's simple logic, if kids don't know what to expect from their parents, they never really know what the rules are.

Try removing privileges...
Revoking privileges is a proven way to get children assumes responsibility for their actions. It will gradually make your kid understand the relationship between the task and the awaiting reward. Revocation can be as simple as depriving them from watching their television shows or taking away their gadgets.

Communicate well...
Children are vulnerable to external influences and depend on parental discretion. It is the responsibility of parents to keep them away from such circumstances. Promote their understanding by employing child-level logic.

Respect the kid...
Never hurt his/her feelings. Childhood is an extremely impressionable age where the slightest influences end up shaping personalities. Your respect will make them feel safe and will gradually tend to open up about everything as he/she grows up.
