Vulture Species On Verge Of Extinction Spotted In Hyderabad, It Was Last Seen 20 Years Ago

In a positive news, a white-rumped vulture was rescued in dehydrated condition at Asifnagar crossroads near Mehdipatnam on Friday. This species of the vulture is seen extinct and this is for the time, the bird has been sighted in the last two decades.

Now the bird has been sent to zoo and has been kept under observation.

The finding of the vulture has raised hopes of finding a nesting site of endangered species of the vulture in the middle of the city. Md Abdul Nayeem, a civil contractor found the bird on Friday night standing near the road in a very weak condition.

“A few stray dogs were trying to attack it. It tried, but could not fly very high. I immediately recognized it as a vulture and gave water to the bird,” he said. The New Indian Express reported.

“As the vulture we rescued is a juvenile, it must not have travelled from afar. We think there might be a nesting site nearby. We will form teams and try to locate the nest. If found, it would be significant for the conservation of the species,” said Forest Department OSD (Wildlife) A Shankaran.
