Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara is one of the best Hindi movies, depicting friendship, life, and everything in between. Directed by Zoya Akhtar, the film stars Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar, Abhay Deol, Katrina Kaif, Kalki Koechlin, and others.

A lot of people love ZNMD for various reasons, but did you know people in the industry were doubtful about the movie? In an interview with BBC Hindi, Abhay Deol revealed that some people in the industry believed the Zoya Akhtar directorial wouldn’t work because it doesn’t have a villain.

Abhay Deol said, “When we were making Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, so many people in the film industry were asking, ‘Who is the villain? There is no villain. What is inner conflict? Who will come to watch Hrithik Roshan’s inner conflict? We were hearing this kind of chatter.”

The Dev D actor added that despite the chatter, the film became successful as it was a fresh concept. “That these kind of actors and making this kind of film and in this budget, and it worked. But the film industry did not have much faith that it would work,” added Deol.

Thirteen years after its release, many people love ZNMD for its music, dialogues, certain scenes and its different outlook on living one’s life. Several scenes featuring Hrithik Roshan, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol also became meme templates. So, despite having no villain, the movie managed to achieve more than the makers thought.

Meanwhile, Abhay Deol was last seen in the Netflix series, Trial By Fire. Based on the 1997 Uphaar Cinema fire tragedy in Delhi, the series also stars Rajshri Deshpande, Ashish Vidyarthi, Anupam Kher and Ratna Pathak Shah.
