Freddie Flintoff's grand return to TV finally confirmed after horror Top Gear crash

Andrew 'Freddie' Flintoff is set to make his grand return to TV following his horror Top Gear crash.

The presenter and cricketer will be back on screens once again. It comes after he was injured while filming for the BBC show back in 2022. The BBC had previously stated they were working with him on "new projects".

Freddie will host a second series of BBC One cricket documentary, Field of Dreams.

Freddie will take his young sports team from Preston on tour. The BBC announced a second series of Field of Dreams had been commissioned in October 2022, however there were no updates following the star's accident two months later. It is not yet known when the new series will air, after it first hit screens back in July 2022.

The first series saw Freddie motivate a group of teenagers to enjoy his beloved sport. Explaining the series, the BBC said: "Freddie is setting himself an even bigger challenge as he takes some of his team and a handful of fresh recruits on a new adventure."

The retired cricketer, 46, suffered serious injuries when he crashed at the Dunsfold Park Aerodome in December 2022 while filming the defunct BBC series Top Gear. He retreated from public life in the wake of accident and opted to not show how serious his facial injuries were at the time. Earlier this month Freddie was spotted filming in India as he is seemingly ready to step back into the spotlight.

In a photo from the trip, Freddie's face appeared to almost have healed following the crash. Young cricketer Subhajit Naskar shared a photo with Freddie on Instagram at The Cricket Association of Bengal. "WITH [Great Britain] LEGEND @aflintoff11," Subhajit captioned the snap, adding the hashtag: "#cricketassociationofbengal."

Freddie recently agreed a deal with the BBC worth about £9 million to makeup for two years' loss of earnings after the Top Gear accident left him with "life-altering significant" injuries. It has been said that Freddie is looking towards the future and his latest ventures.

The first series of Field of Dreams saw Freddie return to his hometown of Preston to introduce young people to cricket, while the second series will take them to India. A source previously told The Sun on Sunday: "Freddie and staff have been quietly working on it since last month (December). It's a show he feels passionate about and he's excited to be returning to the grassroots of the sport.

"It will be his first major TV project in two years. Filming will start in a few months, when it's warmer outside, and will take place in the north of England. A lot of the same production team will be involved in this series so Freddie will feel comfortable ahead of his big telly return."

Freddie has been mostly away from the public view since his accident in December 2022. He was photographed for the first time since the accident back in September as he led fielding drills with England players in Cardiff ahead of the team's one-day international with New Zealand.
