Peyton Manning's advice for Zach Wilson after New York Jets flop traded to Denver Broncos

Peyton Manning has thrown his support behind Zach Wilson, who's just been traded to the Denver Broncos from the New York Jets, calling the move a positive change of scenery for the young quarterback.

Wilson, aged 24, was part of a trade deal that saw the Jets swap their No. 256 seventh-round selection for Denver's No.203 pick in the sixth round of this year's draft.

The Broncos have bolstered their quarterback options with Wilson now on board, joining Jarrett Stidham and Ben DiNucci, after they cut ties with Russell Wilson last month. The trio is set to vie for the starting spot, and it's anticipated that Denver will draft a rookie quarterback to further strengthen their roster.

Manning, speaking to Denver Sports, expressed his optimism about Wilson's prospects at Denver and hinted at the team's interest in Michigan's J.J McCarthy. "The change of scenario for Zach Wilson, I think, is going to be a good one," he said. Highlighting the challenges faced by Wilson during his stint with the Jets, Manning criticized the frequent changes in coordinators, saying: "The best way to really screw a young quarterback up is to change coordinators on him every single year, and it drives me crazy."

Wilson worked under two different offensive coordinators in his three years at New York Mike LaFleur in 2021 and 2022, and Nathaniel Hackett in 2023. Manning has expressed optimism about Wilson's prospects with a new team, saying: "I think it's a great chapter two for Zach.

"He will get coached hard here [in Denver] by Sean Payton and their staff; (it) is important for young quarterbacks to be coached hard." Manning also noted the uniqueness of Payton's system and suggested that a fresh start could be beneficial: "So I think for Zach, I think a reboot actually is good. Let's just sort of start over, right? And let's just let Sean Payton and his staff coach you and kind of start from ground zero, which I think might be just what Zach needs."

Wilson himself hasn't commented on the situation, but his mother, Lisa Wilson, took to Instagram to express her excitement: "Excited for a fresh new start. Let's go! " She also shared her husband Michael's enthusiasm by posting a photo of him in a Broncos jersey with the caption: "Someone's excited."

Despite Manning's positive outlook, he acknowledged the complexity of NFL moves, pointing out the interest between the Broncos and McCarthy: "I know Denver is very interested in him, and it sounded like a place he'd love to come to, but it's a little bit out of his control."

The Broncos are keeping their options open, with reports suggesting they're eyeing Oregon's Bo Nix, which could lead to them trading down from their No. 12 spot in the first round of the draft.
