Twitter's new leader Linda Yaccarino shares first message as CEO
06 Jun 2023

Today marks a new chapter in Twitter's story. Linda Yaccarino has taken charge as CEO of the platform and posted a tweet about her first day at work. She asked her followers to "stay tuned."

Yaccarino is now the face of the micro-blogging platform and the only one "foolish enough to take up the job," according to the company's owner Elon Musk.

Why was Yaccarino appointed top boss?
History

A year ago, Musk purchased Twitter and brought in a set of radical changes, ranging from widespread layoffs to tuning the platform's interface.

His working style, which involved sending late-night emails and engaging in arguments with remaining employees, irked many.

Thus in December 2022, the search began for a new CEO and ended with the onboarding of ex-NBC chief Yaccarino as the new head.

What will be Yaccarino's duties as CEO?
Work

Yaccarino will look after the company's business operations and will focus on mending Twitter's fractured relationship with advertisers. Ad revenue is on a downward trend and the new chief is expected to reverse the course.

Notably, Musk is merely easing his grip on the firm and not relinquishing total control. He will still be in charge of new technology and product design at Twitter.

How popular is the new boss on Twitter?
Fact

When Yaccarino was announced as the new Twitter CEO, she had a mere 7,000 follower count. Now, the figure has risen to over 441,000. With the passage of time, the numbers are only expected to go up.

Yacarrino claims she is not as "prolific" as Musk as of now, but has assured everybody that she remains committed to building "Twitter 2.0 together."

Twitter is certainly in need of an image makeover. To make her plans successful, she has hired her trusted advisor Joe Benarroch.

Benarroch was Yaccarino's colleague at NBC and served as senior vice president of corporate communications there.

In 2013, she found a place in The Hollywood Reporter's 'Women in Entertainment Power 100' list.
