The acclaimed horror franchise, Evil Dead, is preparing for a comeback with a new installment under the direction and scriptwriting of Francis Galluppi.

According to Deadline, Galluppi's innovative concept for the upcoming chapter impressed Sam Raimi, the original creator of the series.

Raimi commended Galluppi's storytelling skills, stating, "Francis is a storyteller who knows when to keep us waiting in simmering tension and when to hit us with explosive violence."

The Evil Dead series, which began modestly in 1981 with a film produced on a budget of less than $400K quickly became a cult classic.

The plot centered around friends who accidentally awaken an ancient evil from the Necronomicon.

The franchise has since expanded to include sequels like Evil Dead II and Army of Darkness, a 2013 remake by Fede Álvarez, and even a TV series named Ash vs. Evil Dead.

Upcoming projects


The most recent installment, Lee Cronin's Evil Dead Rise, released in 2023, garnered nearly $150M US globally.

Galluppi's upcoming project is one of two new Evil Dead films currently in development.

Bruce Campbell, a frequent collaborator with Raimi, revealed plans to release new Evil Dead movies "every two to three years."

The project is still in its early stages with no release date announced yet.

Galluppi made his directorial debut with a suspenseful crime drama, The Last Stop in Yuma County, that premiered at Fantastic Fest last year.

It is set for digital release and select theater screenings on May 10, and stars Jim Cummings, Jocelin Donahue, and Richard Brake in a plot revolving around an isolated rest stop encounter.

Before this, Galluppi had directed numerous music videos for the indie rock band Mt. Joy.
