10 Oct 2019

Ever since his arrival in Bollywood with Shoojit Sircar's Vicky Donor, the amazingly talented Ayushmann Khurrana has delivered back-to-back hits, that are both high on entertainment value and are socially relevant.

And now, the 35-year-old actor has come up with another intriguing romantic comedy, highlighting a fresh social problem.

The trailer of Bala, directed by Amar Kaushik (Stree) released today.

Here's all about it.

Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam also appear in lead roles
Cast

Produced by Dinesh Vijan under the banner of Maddock Films, Bala, apart from Ayushmann, also stars Bhumi Pednekar and Yami Gautam in lead roles.

The movie has a powerful support cast, including Saurabh Shukla, Javed Jaffrey, Seema Pahwa and Abhishek Banerjee.

The small-town comedy would mark Ayushmann and Bhumi's third onscreen collaboration, after Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015) and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan (2017).

The film portrays a young man suffering from alopecia
Plot

Filmed in Mumbai, Lucknow, and Kanpur, Bala showcases the story of a young man in his 20s (Ayushmann), suffering from premature balding (alopecia), and how the condition affects his daily life, and more specifically, his prospects of marriage.

From using cringe-worthy hair masks to hiding under a wig and considering a transplant, our protagonist goes to lengths to find his peace and a soulmate.

'Bala' to clash with 'Ujda Chaman' this November
Fact

The film is set to release on November 7, one day before the release of Ujda Chaman, which is based on a similar concept. The latter, directed by Abhishek Pathak, stars Sunny Singh and Maanvi Gagroo in the lead.

Impressive cast and fresh concept: 'Bala' looks strong
Our take

Having delivered numerous hits in this genre, Ayushmann's ability to perform in this one is beyond doubt.

Now, with him in the lead, and an impressive support cast, Bala looks like a strong box office contender.

It also packs the flavors of a small-town comedy (which is already popular) and a fresh social message, which makes us think that audiences/critics may also like it.
