Special recognition

The announcement of these honors came as a surprise, as they are usually presented twice a year - at the start of the new year and on King Charles III's birthday.

However, exceptions are made for special achievements in various fields such as sports and arts.

The formal ceremony typically takes place at Buckingham Palace, often presided over by the UK monarch.
