'Laal Kaptaan' first look out, Saif impresses as a sadhu

The first look of Saif Ali Khan's next, Laal Kaptaan, got released yesterday, and has him sporting the look of a naga sanyasi, with hair tied up in a bun on top, face smeared with ash, and a red teeka on the forehead.

Initially titled Hunter, this film, produced by Eros International and Anand L Rai's Yellow Production, will release on September 6.

When one looks at the poster closely, one can find the red teeka going all the way up to a dead man, turned upside down, back to the screen. The eerie feeling around the film's first look has already generated a buzz, and rightly so.


Film to have "larger-than-life landscapes, dramatic characters, gripping story"


Story


Directed by Navdeep Singh of NH10 fame, the film has been described as an "epic action drama," by Rai.

It details revenge, and deceit between two brothers.

According to Sunil Lulla, MD, Eros International, the film has "a larger-than-life landscape, dramatic characters and a gripping story that makes it a first-of-its-kind".

Rai further says this film will "definitely generate a genre."

While speaking about choosing Saif as the film's lead, Lulla said, "Saif is a gifted actor and this script allows him to showcase his talent like never before."

Along with Saif, the movie features Zoya Hussain of Mukkabaaz fame, and Manav Vij, who was last seen in Rangoon.

Talking about his role, Saif said it's his most ambitious one till date.


For now, Saif is focusing on 'Sacred Games' Season 2

"It's about a fight between two brothers and my character, who's almost like an animal, fights for his rights," Saif explained.

For getting his character right, the actor had to learn sword fighting.

Meanwhile, he is currently focusing on Netflix's Sacred Games where he returns as Inspector Sartaj Singh.

The second season of the series will release in the middle of this year.

It can be said Sacred Games gave Saif a new direction, as prior to that, he starred in three disastrous films, Rangoon, Chef, and Kalakandi.

Apart from Saif, the series will also have Nawazuddin Siddiqui returning as Ganesh Gaitonde (antagonist), and Pankaj Tripathi as Khanna Guruji.

New names like Kalki Koechlin and Ranvir Shorey have been roped in for some "pivotal roles."
