The Central Election Committee (CEC) of the Congress Party will meet on Saturday to discuss candidates for the Lok Sabha seats in Amethi and Raebareli.

According to Congress sources, leaders of the UP Congress and Avinash Pandey, general secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), have been summoned to the meeting.

Previously, the UP Congress proposed to the CEC that the Gandhi family contest the seats. The decision for the same was left to the CEC and top leadership.

Rahul and Priyanka could be nominated as candidates
Candidate speculation

There is a strong possibility that Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi could be nominated as candidates for the Amethi and Rae Bareli seats respectively.

A high-ranking party official expressed optimism about this proposal, stating that the situation is very good and they are very positive for the proposal to be considered in a true spirit.

The final decision, however, rests with the CEC and senior leadership of the party.

Robert Vadra expresses interest in running for Amethi
Political aspirations

Also in the fray for the Amethi seat is Robert Vadra, husband of Priyanka, who has expressed his interest in running for the seat.

"The voice is coming from the entire country. They want me to get into active politics as I have always been among the people of the country," he said earlier.

In addition, he criticized Smriti Irani, accusing her of not fulfilling her promises.

Irani snatched the Amethi seat from Rahul in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.

Priyanka likely to contest from Rae Bareli
Election prospects

Like Amethi, Rae Bareli, a Congress stronghold since 1960, has been represented by various members of the Gandhi family, including Feroze Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi.

With Sonia moving to the Rajya Sabha, it is likely that Priyanka will be fielded from Rae Bareli.

The Amethi and Rae Bareli Lok Sabha constituencies will vote in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20.
