Balkaur Singh, father of the late singer-turned-politician Sidhu Moose Wala, is reportedly considering running in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

According to a Times Now report, Singh has chosen the Bathinda constituency in Punjab as his electoral battleground.

The constituency will go to the polls in the last and seventh phase of the Lok Sabha elections on June 1.

He is expected to enter the race as an independent candidate.

If Balkaur decides to enter the race, he will be up against Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader and former Union Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Other contenders are Jeet Mohinder Sidhu from Congress, Gurmeet Singh Khudian from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), and Parampal Kaur from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Kaur is the daughter-in-law of SAD leader Sikandar Singh Maluka.

Singh and his wife welcomed a baby boy earlier
Allegations

Earlier this year, Singh and his wife Charan Kaur welcomed a baby boy via in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Following this event, they accused the AAP-led Punjab government of "interfering with the happiness of a newborn child."

"I am being questioned to prove my child's legitimacy. Let my wife's treatment be completed. I am here, and I will continue to be here," Singh stated.

Investigation

The Union Health Ministry had also requested a comprehensive report from the Punjab government on Kaur's IVF treatment due to age restrictions under the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, or ART Act.

Responding to this request, Singh claimed harassment over documents related to his newborn child.

He warned those trying to harass him, saying, "But if you are trying to harass me, be prepared to face the consequences. I am not one to backtrack."
