The wife of jailed Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Sunita Kejriwal, will spearhead the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s Lok Sabha campaign.

The campaign will kick off with her inaugural roadshow on Saturday, where she will endorse AAP's East Delhi candidate, Kuldeep Kumar.

"In protest against the arrest of Arvind...his wife...will campaign to seek blessings for him and to seek votes for AAP candidates. She will seek blessings...from the people of Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat and Haryana," Delhi Minister Atishi said.

Why does this story matter?
Fact

Since Kejriwal's arrest last month in a money laundering case linked to the Delhi Excise Policy, Sunita has been serving as an intermediary between her husband and the AAP. So far, the former IRS officer has held three digital media briefings, largely to communicate the CM's messages to the public and Delhi cabinet ministers. In March and earlier this month, she delivered speeches at rallies organized by the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc in Delhi and Jharkhand.

Legal troubles

On Sunday, Sunita will hold roadshows in East Delhi and West Delhi Lok Sabha constituencies to seek blessings for her husband.

Meanwhile, AAP workers in the national capital staged a 'Jail Ka Jawab Vote Se' protest on Saturday morning against the arrest of Kejriwal.

Kejriwal has been incarcerated at Tihar Jail since April 1. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested him on March 21 in connection with the now-defunct Delhi excise policy.

He will remain in judicial custody until May 7.

In Haryana, the AAP is running from Kurukshetra, whereas in Punjab, it is contesting all 13 seats independently.
