Invisibility Shield Co, a British start-up, has unveiled an advanced version of its revolutionary product, that can effectively hide objects behind it by manipulating light.

The upgraded model, named Invisibility Shield 2.0, is now available in larger sizes than its predecessor, with the biggest variant reaching up to six feet in height.

As per the company's Kickstarter page, this size can conceal multiple people standing side by side.

How does the Invisibility Shield work?
Working principle

The Invisibility Shield operates by exploiting certain properties of light.

It directs light from the background toward the observer, while deflecting light from an object or person hidden behind the shield away from the observer, effectively rendering them invisible.

However, it's important to note that the shield does not completely fool the eye, and performs optimally against a simple backdrop such as a brick wall or a beach.

Versatile

The original Invisibility Shield has been utilized in a variety of innovative ways.

It has been used for concealment during paintball games, performing stage magic tricks, observing wildlife without detection, and even hiding participants on a Korean dating show.

Despite its limitations and imperfections, the Invisibility Shield serves as an entertaining optical illusion, that could be useful for activities like photographing elusive birds or playing intricate games of hide and seek.

Cost

The 2.0 version of the Invisibility Shield starts at approximately $66 (₹5,500) for a "mini" shield that measures roughly 12-inch by 8-inch.

The "Megashield," capable of concealing multiple people, is priced just under $1,000 (₹83,340) on Kickstarter.

So far, Invisibility Shield Co has successfully raised $182,500 (₹1.5 crore) on Kickstarter, significantly surpassing its initial goal of $11,600 (₹9.6 lakh).

Where to use Invisibility Shield?

The creators have noted that Invisibility Shield performs best against uniform backgrounds, and in low light or overcast conditions. However, despite its innovative design, it is still somewhat cumbersome and requires some time to assemble.
