#PulwamaAftermath: Pakistan Government takes control of Jaish headquarters amid pressure

Amid immense international pressure, the Pakistani Government has taken over the administrative control of Jaish-e-Mohammed terror outfit's headquarters on Friday.

The terror organization claimed responsibility for the deadly suicide car bomb attack in Jammu & Kashmir's Pulwama on 14 February that martyred 40 CRPF personnel.

Pakistan has been under intense global pressure to take control of terror groups operating from the country.

"The Punjab government has taken over the control of the JeM headquarters in Bahawalpur. The government...has taken over the control of a campus comprising Madressatul Sabir and Jama-e-Masjid Subhanallah in Bahawalpur...and appointed an administrator to manage its affairs," said Pakistan's Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry.

Move comes after UNSC issued statement condemning Pulwama attack

Pakistani Government's move to take control of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) headquarters comes a day after the 15-nation United Nations Security Council, comprising its close ally China, condemned the Pulwama attack.

Naming the Pakistan-based terror outfit, UNSC issued a statement condemning the "heinous and cowardly" attack in the "strongest terms", stressing the need for holding accountable and bringing to justice the financiers/organizers of such "reprehensible acts".

Statement

In its statement on the Pulwama attack, the UNSC asserted, "Terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security."

It also urged "all states in according with their obligations under international law and relevant Security Council resolutions to cooperate actively with Government of India and all other relevant authorities."

Interior Ministry of Pakistan also issued a statement

Pakistan's Interior Ministry also issued a statement over the government taking control of the JeM headquarters.

It stated the crackdown "has been taken in line with the decision of the National Security Committee meeting held on Thursday under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Imran Khan."

Currently, the faculty at Islamic seminaries in the JeM campus has 70 teachers while there are around 600 students.

Pakistan also banned Jamat-ud-Dawa and Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation

Pakistan, earlier on Thursday, also decided to ban the 2008 Mumbai terror attack mastermind Hafiz Saeed-led Jamat-ud-Dawa (JuD) organization along with its charity wing Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation (FIF).

Both of these organizations were earlier kept on the Pakistan Interior Ministry's watchlist.

JuD and FIF are believed to be a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit that carried out the 2008 Mumbai attack, which claimed 166 lives.
