In view of the rising outbreak of the global epidemic coronavirus, the central government issued an ordinance to cut the salary of MPs on Tuesday. Under this, the salary will be cut by 30 percent. This deduction will be deemed applicable from April 1.

Explain that for this, the government had approved a small amendment in the law related to the salary of MPs a day earlier.

Explain that the Salary, Allowances, and Pension (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 of Members of Parliament have come into force with immediate effect. Through the Ordinance, a new sub-section has been added to the Salaries, Allowances and Pensions Act 1954 of Members of Parliament, which deals with the reduction of salary.

The new provision provides that the lawmakers' salaries have been reduced by 30 percent for a year, given the current circumstances for the war against Corona and to meet medical needs, with effect from 1 April 2020. The new provision also states that the provisions of sub-section 1 of the salary to all MPs will now be reduced by 30 percent for one year from April 1, 2020, to deal with the Kovid-19 epidemic.

Explain that this ordinance was approved by the Union Cabinet on Monday. Although the government has just issued an ordinance, it is reported that a bill will be replaced in the next session of Parliament. There are 543 members in the Lok Sabha and 245 in the Rajya Sabha.
