At least 45 people died when a bus fell into a ditch in South Africa and an eight-year-old girl was taken to hospital in critical condition. According to the Transport Department, a bus fell from a bridge into a ditch in South Africa, killing 45 of the 46 passengers on board.

According to Reuters, the bus was travelling from Botswana to Moria, a city in the northern Limpopo province.

The bus broke the barrier on a bridge built in a mountainous area near Mamatalakala, 300 kilometres north of Johannesburg, and fell 164 feet into the gorge below. The bus caught fire when it fell. 

There were 46 people aboard the bus

According to the report, a total of 46 people were aboard the bus. Immediately after the accident, the fire brigade team reached the spot and the rescue operation was started. A woman died while being airlifted. Only an 8-year-old girl survived the accident and was admitted to the hospital. 

The bus fell after breaking the barrier.

In the video shared by local news channel eNCA, it is seen that the burnt bus is lying under a curved bridge. Officials said that the speed of the bus was very high, the bus could not turn on the curved bridge broke the barrier and fell from the bridge. This accident happened in a mountainous area near Mokopane, South Africa.

South Africa's Transport Minister Sindisiwe Chikunga said the cause of the accident was being investigated. Limpopo's Department of Transport and Community Safety said in a statement, "Some of the bodies were burnt beyond recognition." The department said many people were trapped inside the bus, while others were lying on the rocks. Were shattered.
