Arif Mohammed Khan to go Rajya Sabha, returns to parliamentary politics

New Delhi: Arif Mohammad Khan, who resigned from the Rajiv Gandhi government on the issue of former Congress leader and Triple Talaq, will be elected for the Rajya Sabha. Khan is known for his views on issues related to minorities, terrorism, Kashmir. It is not clear whether Khan will become a Rajya Sabha MP or once again will join BJP.

There is a consensus among the government, the BJP and the Sangh on sending him to the Rajya Sabha.

Khan, who had served twice from the Congress, once from the Janata Dal and the BSP, was a member of the Lok Sabha and joined the BJP in 2004. However, with the BJP leaving in 2007, he distanced himself from parliamentary politics. Arif Khan has been running a vocal campaign across the country in favour of making triple talaq a punishable offence and the decision to abolish Article 370 from Jammu and Kashmir.

Though Khan has been consistently vocal since the introduction of a bill to make triple talaq a punishable offence, Khan has been attending frequent seminars in many parts of the country after it was made a punishable offence and in the meantime, Article 370 was over. At a seminar on triple talaq on Sunday, BJP President and Home Minister Amit Shah himself lauded Khan's role. Arif Mohammed Khan has been a sharp critic of the reinforcement of Muslim appeasement.
