IPL Spot Fixing Case: BCCI Granted Big Relief To Sreesanth, Life Ban Revoked

Kochi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed 36-year-old cricketer S.K. Singh. The life ban on Sreesanth has been reduced to just 7 years. Now the ban imposed on Sreesanth will expire on September 13, 2020. An order issued by the BCCI Ombudsman said that it has decided to reduce the ban on Sreesanth to seven years.

It is worth mentioning that Sreesanth was banned for life on September 13, 2013. Earlier on March 2019, the Supreme Court had removed the life ban on Sreesanth in the IPL spot-fixing case. SC held that the BCCI has the power to take disciplinary action. The court had ordered the BCCI to grant Sreesanth an opportunity to hear and prescribe a sentence within three months.

The apex court had asked the BCCI to reconsider its ban on Sreesanth. The Supreme Court had said that the Lifetime Ban is more. After the Supreme Court judgement, Sreesanth said, "I consider Leander Paes to be the role model. When he can play a Grand Slam at the age of 45, Nehra can play the Cricket World Cup at the age of 38, so why can't I?? I am only 36 years old and my training continues.
