SSC scam: CBI court orders extension of custody of Partha Chatterjee

Kolkata: In the Bengal Teacher Recruitment Scam (SSC Scam), the former minister of the Mamata Banerjee government of West Bengal does not seem to be getting any relief. A special CBI court in Alipore on Wednesday extended the judicial custody of former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee till October 19. Not only this, but the court has also given the same order for other officers arrested in this case.

A special CBI court in Alipore has extended the judicial custody of former West Bengal Board of Secondary Education (WBBSE) chief Kalyanmoy Ganguly, former West Bengal School Service Commission (SSC) secretary Ashok Saha and former SSC advisor SP Sinha in connection with the School Service Commission (SSC) recruitment scam case on the demand of the investigating agency. After the court order, these people will also have to remain in judicial custody till October 19. The CBI is investigating the scam following an order of the Calcutta High Court.

Former West Bengal minister Partha Chatterjee and his aide Arpita Mukherjee were arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on July 23. The ED had seized around Rs 50 crore in cash, including jewellery and other properties, from Partha Chatterjee's flats during the probe.
