Seeman, the founder of the 'Naam Tamizhar Katchi' (NTK) party, who came into politics from the cinema, made this disputed statement just before the by-elections in Vikravandi assembly, which Tamil Nadu Congress leaders lodged a case of treason against Seeman expressing strong opposition.

Despite the criticisms, NTK leaders have hinted at sticking to their statements. The local Congress has alleged that this statement is against national unity. Police say that a case has been registered against Seeman. A video of Seeman has gone viral during his speech at an election rally. In this video, he is justifying the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi.

Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated on May 21, 1991, in the LTTE suicide attack. NTK leader Seeman LTTE is a supporter of Supremo V Prabhakaran. Tamil Nadu Congress Chief KS Alagiri and Lok Sabha MP Su Thirunavukkarasar condemned Seeman's statement, saying such statements promote terrorism.
