Weapons 140-nos Surrendered In Manipur After Amit Shah's Appeal

MANIPUR: After Home Minster Amit Shah's appeal, the Manipur Police said on Friday that at least 140 Weapons have been surrendered at various locations throughout the state, Manipur Police said.

 The weapons surrendered include these: INSAS Rifle, SLR 29, AK, INSAS , Carbine, LMG, .303 Rifle, 9mm pistol, .32 pistol and Granade launcher.

Curfew has been lifted from six districts of the state.

The Home Minster said on Thursday that a judicial commission would be set up  by the Union Government to look into the violent incidents in Manipur. A High Court judge who has retired will serve as the committee's chair. He added that the Manipur governor will serve as the chairman of a civil society-led peace council.

In the meantime, the CBI will look into five specific places of violence as well as one general case to explore the conspiracy theory. Amit Shah expressed his condolences to all the families who had lost loved ones in the violence when speaking about the violent incidents that had been reported in Manipur over the previous month. Over the past three days, I have made multiple trips to Manipur, meeting with officials in Imphal, Moreh, and Churachandpur in an effort to bring about peace in the state. Meitei and Kuki CSOs have been introduced to me.

In order to ensure better and unbiased coordination amongst the investigative authorities, he emphasised that multiple agencies are working in Manipur to look into the violent episodes. He also disclosed that an inter-agency unified command is being established. Five violent occurrences will be the subject of a high-level CBI investigation, and a sixth case has been registered to look into the plot more broadly. He promised to make sure the probe was impartial.

"The Government has decided to set up a Judicial Commission under the chairmanship of a retired judge (of the level of the Chief Justice of High Court) to investigate all aspects of violence, all causes of violence, and to determine who is responsible for the violence," Shah said when announcing the creation of the committee. Additionally, the Governor will serve as the chairman of a peace committee.

The Home Minister said, the Manipur Government will send Rs 5 lakh in compensation via Direct Bank Transfer (DBT) to the survivors of those who have passed away. He stated that the Central Government would also provide Rs 5 lakh in compensation to the victims' surviving family members via DBT.

He also said,  to aid residents and assess the state's situation, Joint Secretary and Joint Director level officers from the Home Ministery and other ministries will be present in the violent state. To help the victims of violence in the state, the Central government has sent 8 teams of medical professionals, comprising 20 physicians, to Manipur. He said that three more teams are on their way and that five teams had already arrived.
