“We never said there is no scope for discussions with farmers: Union Minister Prakash Javadekar

New Delhi : Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar while addressing a press conference on Wednesday informed that the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved MSP of Copra at Rs 10,335 per quintal.

The Union Minister mentioned that in comparison to 2020 rates, CCEA this year has increased MSP by Rs 375.

Reacting to the tractor rally violence which took place on the streets of the national capital on Tuesday, Prakash Javadekar said, “We never said that there is no more scope for discussion with farmers.” He said whatever decisions with regard to talks with farmers are taken, will be disclosed at the right time.

The 11th round of talks between the protesting farmers and the government on January 22 broke down with both the sides not ready to climb down from their respective positions. While the farmers remained adamant on repeal of the three Farm laws, the government asked them to consider their offer of suspending the implementation of the Acts up one-and-a-half years. For the first time, no date has been fixed for the next round of talks.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police have registered 22 FIRs so far in connection with the violence that broke out during the farmers’ tractor parade in the national capital leaving over 300 policemen injured, officials said on Wednesday (January 27).

The tractor parade on Tuesday that was to highlight the demands of the farmer unions to repeal three new agri laws dissolved into anarchy on the streets of the city as tens of thousands of protesters broke through barriers, fought with police, overturned vehicles and hoisted a religious flag from the ramparts of the Red Fort.
