A BJP candidate has lost an election in Kasba Peth after 28 years. Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar has defeated BJP’s Hemant Rasane by 11,000 votes. The seat of Kasba Peth which had fallen vacant after the death of BJP MLA Mukta Tilak, had become a prestige issue for Fadnavis and the ruling party. The BJP had deployed 40 star campaigners for the poll campaign. CM Eknath Shinde and Deputy CM Fadnavis had taken out a rally and appealed to people to cast their votes for the BJP candidate. Ravindra Dhangekar has emerged as the winner and now, everyone wants to know more information about Dhangekar.

 

Dhangekar is a resident of Daund taluka in Pune district. Dhangekar started his political career in Pune city through Shiv Sena. After leaving Shiv Sena, He joined the Maharashtr Navnirman Sena. When he was in MNS, he was known as a trusted lieutenant of MNS President Raj Thackeray. In 2009, Dhangekar had contested the Kasba Peth assembly election against Girish Bapat. At that time, it was a hard fought contest. Dhangekar had lost by a close margin. Girish Bapat had won by 7,000 votes. In 2014, Dhangekar had contested against Bapat but he was placed third. Later, Dhangekar was not happy in MNS.

 

In 2017, Dhangekar had joined the Congress in the presence of then state Congress Chief Ashok Chavan. However, in 2019, the Congress party did not give the ticket to Dhangekar. Arvind Shinde was given the ticket against Mukta Tilak. Dhangekar has been elected as corporator four times.

 

Different working style
Local residents say that Dhangekar is expert in getting citizens’ work done as early as possible. He has a huge connect with the people. When any local resident contacts him, he is available for 24 hours. He is known as ‘people’s man’ in Kasba Peth. He is always seen moving in the constituency on a scooter. He has been elected as MVA’s candidate from Kasba Peth in the bypoll. The leader of the opposition, Ajit Pawar, said that 50 per cent credit for the victory should go to Dhangekar and 50 per cent credit goes to MVA.
