Hopes Increased for Corona Vaccine, Oxford University Test Moves to Next Stage
New Delhi : To overcome the epidemic caused by the Coronavirus, work is going on fast on the discovery of vaccines worldwide. Meanwhile, researchers at the University of Oxford on Friday confirmed initial successes on the vaccine to protect against the coronavirus, saying they were moving to another level of testing on a human scale.
Researchers at the University of Oxford are going to the next level, starting to recruit more than 10,000 people for the second phase of testing.
The first phase of the trial on the vaccine began last month, in which 1,000 healthy adults and volunteers under age 55 were trialed. Now, to see the impact on their immune system, adults over 70 years and children between 5 and 12 years old in count, total of more than 10,200 people will be enrolled for the study.
A recent study found that the vaccine named ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 has shown some promising results in small studies done with monkeys.
Effect of Vaccine
“The COVID-19 vaccine trial team is working hard to assess the safety and immunogenicity and vaccine efficacy of ChAdOx1 nCoV-19,” said Sarah Gilbert, professor of vaccinology at the University’s Jenner Institute.
She said that we are already very interested in people over the age of 55 who were not eligible to participate in the first phase of research, and now we will be able to include older age groups to continue vaccination. We will cover more parts of the country as well as more study sites.
