K-POP ICON HYUNA SHARES HER BATTLE WITH EXTREME DIETING AND ITS TOLL ON HER HEALTH

K-pop star Hyuna, a familiar face in the industry since her debut at 15, has bravely opened up about her severe eating disorder. Previously hinting at her health struggles, Hyuna has now detailed the extreme measures she took to maintain a weight of just 88 lbs (40 kg), including limiting herself to just one piece of sushi per day.

Dangerous Dieting Consequences

Hyuna's intense diet regimen led to significant health issues over the years. In the grueling early days of her career, she subsisted on barely anything, such as a single piece of kimbap daily, while fulfilling demanding schedules. This unhealthy lifestyle wreaked havoc on her health, culminating in multiple fainting spells due to peripheral neuritis—a nerve condition exacerbated by her insufficient diet.

Frequent Fainting and Health Woes

Recounting her hardships, Hyuna revealed the frightening frequency of her collapses. "In one month, I fainted 12 times," she disclosed, highlighting the dangers of her dietary choices. These health scares continued into her professional life, impacting her ability to perform, as seen in 2020 during the filming of her music video for 'I’m Not Cool', where she experienced another collapse.

Mental Health Struggles

Besides physical health challenges, Hyuna has also battled depression and panic disorder, diagnoses she confirmed in 2019. These mental health issues have paralleled her physical ailments, adding another layer of difficulty to her life and career.

A Remarkable Journey in Music

Despite these challenges, Hyuna's career achievements are noteworthy. Starting with the girl group Wonder Girls in 2007, she later became a key member of 4Minute, formed the duo Trouble Maker, and has released ten solo albums, marking a significant footprint in the K-pop industry.
