“I will always be your father, never your best friend” is what my dad has said to me all my life and adhered to it. He is SUCH a dad. Every day without fail at 7:30-8pm I get a message from him that says, 'Kidher'. When I respond and say I’m going to come back home late, there’s radio silence until 11:30 pm and then I get a 'Good Night', but he isn’t actually sleeping that time. My father is probably the dad-est of them all. He’s such a sweetheart and a pure soul. He never lets anyone, and I mean anyone, say anything to me ever, even if he fights with me all the time. When I was in Bombay for my post-graduation, we would call each other about 7-8 times per day (no kidding!) and tell the other person EVERYTHING about our day. He’s picked up a new habit these days. Every morning, since the past year or so, he goes to every room in the house and puts everyone’s phones on charging so that by the time my mum, my brother and I are up, our phones are fully charged and we don’t have to worry about it for the rest of the day. 4. A dad who’ll do anything for his li'l princessWhen I was a kid, I was really fond of Barbie. I used to pass by these toy shops and see these fancy dolls and always wanted to own one. My father was in his early years of employment and my parents did not have the heart to tell me that we can't afford it. One day, I came to know that my father had to travel to the US for 3 months to work on a project. When he was leaving for the airport, he made me sit on his shoulders (yes, that was my favourite and most comforting place) and asked me, "What should I get you from the US?" and obviously my reply was "a Barbie". Yes, he did fulfil my wish and got me two barbies instead. It was at a later, when I was mature enough to understand the hardships of life, that my mother told me that he skipped his meals and saved up to buy me dolls. I can never forget what he did for me. 5. Because dad knows that pizza is baeMy dad travels a lot, he is usually away for weeks and he definitely misses ghar ka khana. So every time he returns from his trips, he just wants to have the homemade delicacies (fish and rice, staple Bengali khana). Me on the other side, I look forward to bahar ka khana (who wants to eat ghar ka khana every day). A sweet thing my dad does, he always asks "should I order something for you?" and gets me my favourites all the time. 6. Do you have my number?!I suck at calling people up. I am more of a WhatsApp person. My friends and family know that too well by now.
