PM Modi takes a swipe at Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh in Rajasthan; 'unable to win elections'

PTC News Desk: In a recent public address in Rajasthan's Jalore, Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a veiled criticism aimed at Sonia Gandhi, without directly naming her, for utilising the Rajya Sabha route to enter Parliament. Modi remarked on Congress's strategy of sending leaders like KC Venugopal from the South to represent Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha, followed by facilitating former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's candidacy.

He questioned the absence of Manmohan Singh in Rajasthan despite his prolonged illness, insinuating the opportunistic nature of such appointments. Modi remarked, "Those who can't contest and win elections, fled the ground and took the Rajya Sabha route."

Modi also highlighted Congress's declining electoral prowess, contrasting its previous dominance with its current struggles to field candidates. He criticised the party's alliances, particularly the INDIA bloc, which faced internal conflicts and disunity, hindering its electoral prospects. Modi emphasized the divisive nature of these alliances, pointing out instances where supposed allies contested against each other in various states.

The Prime Minister's remarks come ahead of the upcoming elections in Jalore, scheduled for the second phase on April 26.

In a separate rally in Maharashtra's Nanded, Modi took aim at Rahul Gandhi, suggesting that the Congress leader might have to seek refuge elsewhere after the elections in Wayanad, similar to his retreat from Amethi following his defeat in the 2019 polls. Modi remarked on Rahul Gandhi's perceived vulnerability in Wayanad and hinted at his potential search for a safer electoral constituency post-elections.

Raebareli Resonance

In a significant move, Sonia Gandhi has relinquished her Raebareli seat, citing health concerns. With both the Congress and the BJP yet to announce their respective candidates for the upcoming polls on May 20, the electoral landscape in Raebareli remains uncertain.

"I am deeply grateful for the unwavering support you have shown me throughout the years. It is with a heavy heart that I announce my decision not to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha election due to health and age-related considerations," Sonia Gandhi conveyed to the residents of Raebareli in a heartfelt message following her announcement to step away from electoral politics.

"While I may no longer have the privilege to directly serve you, know that my thoughts and dedication will forever remain with you. I trust in your enduring support for me and my family in the days to come, just as you have stood by us in the past," Sonia Gandhi expressed in her message.
