Michael Douglas nursed by Catherine Zeta-Jones after op but she didn't fulfil one request

Michael Douglas was nursed back to health by his beloved wife Catherine Zeta-Jones after his skiing ordeal.

The Hollywood star, 79, had been walking with a limp for years after a nearly ill-fated skiing accident took its toll on one of his knees.

However, on the set of his movie Solitary Man, he was "instructed" to resolve the problem - and

he was then back on the mend with the help of his beautiful wife Catherine, 54, after a major operation on his knee.

Michael recalled the aftermath of his operation during a resurfaced interview taken from his appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, in which he revealed that he was forced to have an "artificial knee" fitted.

"I had a skiing accident years and years ago and it just wore down," he explained to host Jay.

"It finally got to a point where I had a limp and I had to [get an op]."

The star added that there was a three-month recovery period before he could walk normally again.

While publicly praising his wife Catherine, whom he married in 2000, for being "fantastic" after his knee was fitted with "PVC [and] plastic pipes with titanium rods" there was one ask she simply refused to do.

"I could not get her into the nurse's uniform [though]," Michael playfully admitted joked, before adding: "I did try!"

Thanks to his operation Michael has had no issues with limping while filming his new historical mini Apple TV mini-series, Franklin.

The Fatal Attraction star portrays Benjamin Franklin, who is world-famous for his electrical experiments in the 18th century.

When it came to taking on the new role, Michael told MensHealth he was "at a point in my life where I'm trying different things" as he noted: "I thought this would be fun. Not to mention, eight months in Paris can't be terrible. It was the whole combination."

The star even added his own ideas to the series: "I'm embarrassed to say that I added that," the Oscar-winning star added, referring to a scene in the series when Benjamin let his flatulence get the better of him due to his ill health.

"I did. I'm sorry if it [takes] everybody out of the scene, but for the amount of time that we spend with him, knowing his health issues, I thought it would be uncouth to do eight hours and not fart once."

Franklin is available to stream on AppleTV+.
