Unlocked - A Jail Experiment on Netflix: What prison was used for Netflix reality show?

Unlocked: A Jail Experiment has landed on and fans are eager to know where it was filmed.

The eight-part reality series focuses on the lives of inmates of a detention facility in the US who are taking part in a radical experiment.

For the first time, the sheriff is offering an alternative way of living within prison walls, unlocking unit cells for six weeks, giving convicted criminals a chance to have some autonomy over their lives.

The aim is to see if less control in prisons can lead to a better, more community-orientated environment and therefore discourage individuals from committing crimes in the future.

But will the inmates pass expectations or are they going to cause havoc as soon as the doors are opened?

What prison was used for filming Netflix's Unlocked: A Jail Experiment?

Unlocked: A Jail Experiment made its debut on Wednesday, April 10, on Netflix.

With all eight episodes released in one go, subscribers are curious to know exactly where the social experiment was filmed.

According to Netflix, the shooting of Unlocked over a six-week period took place at Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Behind the radical idea is Arkansas sheriff Eric Higgins who has worked as a Little Rock police officer for more than 30 years.

The security level varies in each unit of the facility and his goal was to create an environment with "less direct supervision".

Explaining his thought process to Tudum, Higgins said: "Pulaski County Regional Detention centre is a direct supervision facility, which means the deputies are inside the unit with detainees.

"We thought, 'What can we do to create some ownership for those detainees in that unit?'

"'How do we make the facility safer, and what can we do to still hold them accountable but empower them at the same time?'"

The facility itself is the largest of its kind in the state of Arkansas and houses up to 1,200 every day.

Each episode of the one-part series will focus on various inmates and how they react to the more lenient lifestyle.

To some, it is an opportunity to cause problems and let loose while they are behind bars.

But for some, it's an opportunity to connect to others and make the most of their time inside, not in isolation.

Unlocked - A Jail Experiment is available to watch on Netflix.
