Police were trying to figure out why the victim was unable to get out of the car.

Hyderabad: In a tragic incident, a hatchback caught fire on Wednesday at the Outer Ring Road near Sultanpur resulting in the death of its rider.

According to the TOI reports, the victim is identified as G Venkata Giri, a senior manager with Gangavaram Port Ltd.

The hatchback was registered in Giri’s wife Sreedevi’s name on January 25, 2019, and was manufactured on November 1, 2018.

Police asked auto major Maruti Suzuki to inspect the vehicle and figure out the reason for the blaze as the car was manufactured only 4 months ago.

According to the victim’s family members, Giri left the house for the office, located at Road Number 36, Jubilee Hills around 9:30 am. Around 11.20am, the Maruti Celerio (TS 07 GM 4666) driven by the victim caught fire at Sultanpur and Giri was burnt alive in his vehicle.

Police were also keen on analysing call detail record (CDR) of the victim as he took about two hours to reach the accident spot after leaving his residence in Bowrampet though it takes less than 30 minutes. Police wanted to see where Giri was for the rest of the time.

The victim’s skeletal remains were recovered from the gutted car. Police were trying to figure out why the victim was unable to get out of the car. Clues Team collected forensic evidence from the spot, fire department officials and the motor vehicle inspector observed the place and the gutted car.

Ameenpur inspector S Prabhakar said, “The car was pretty new and except the metal frame and parts, everything was gutted by the fire. By looking at it, it is difficult to say what caused the fire accident.”

“Technical team from Maruti has been called to inspect the vehicle and also check servicing record to see if any alterations were made in it, which might have caused the fire,” he added.

A case of suspicious death was registered under Section 174 of CrPC.
