The Bhagwad Gita's Success Formula

When Steve Jobs was asked, by a friend what he should do to become as successful as Steve, the instant reply was – go to India for spiritual knowledge!

The Bhagwad Gita speaks to people seeking success in the world. Arjuna was a worldly person struggling with his own issues. Krishna’s message helped him overcome challenges and emerge victorious.

The Gita introduces us to our inner personality – the body, mind and intellect. Intellect is the controlling factor.  It must be fortified to hold the urges of the body and put the whims and fancies of the mind in place. Or your personality gets overturned.  When the intellect is in command, you tap into your talent and achieve success.

Many of our actions are performed unconsciously. Become aware of your actions. Are your actions driven only by the desire for personal satisfaction? Or are you inspired by a higher purpose? Are you following the likes and dislikes of the mind? Or are you guided by the wisdom of the intellect? Are you mechanically acting in line with your nature or are you trying to break free and reach higher levels of excellence?

Do you merely perform routine activity or are you striving to surpass your previous performance? Repetitive actions lead to boredom and failure. Creative actions make you successful. Every time you act, approach it from a fresh angle. And you will be amazed at your own brilliance.

When the mind is calm, the intellect is sharp and action, brilliant. When the mind is disturbed, you are unable to access your expertise; action gets flawed and you fail.

Perfection exists within you. You are blocking it with selfishness and ego. Set aside your petty approach and embrace a larger vision. You will be free from thought of self and achieve outstanding success. The beauty and grandeur within will shine forth.

The intellect must guide all actions towards the goal. The mind must surrender to the ideal. And the body must work hard. The higher the goal, the greater the vitality. The vigour generated tends to get dissipated in the unproductive channels of worry over the past and anxiety for future. A strong intellect keeps the mind focused on the present and action is perfect. Whether it is a batsman about to hit a century or a tennis player at match point, concentration is the key.

Action is imperative in life. Stop action and you deteriorate and perish. Act in the field of your talent, that special ability you were born with; your svadharma. Perform action dedicated to a higher ideal, a goal beyond your personal needs and concerns. Cultivate the attitude of giving. This comes from an acute awareness of all that you have been blessed with, the millions of gifts you have received unknown to you, for free, and in abundance! The law is – Give, you gain; grab, you lose. All givers are happy. And they grow into towering personalities. The highest action is that dedicated to the Power that bestowed the talent on you. If you are a musician sing for God, if you are a surgeon do surgery for God and so on.

In the beginning, you are obsessed with the egoistic notion of ‘I-am-the-doer.’ As you evolve, you become aware of millions of factors that are contributing to your success. You realise your insignificance in the scheme of things. You are chastened. You align with the higher Power that enables everything.

Thus, you are purified of desire and ego and become truly successful.
