Black hole, the pinnacle of self-realisation

A black hole is described as a place in space where the gravity pull is so strong that even light cannot escape from it. The gravity is strong because matter has been squeezed into a tiny space. This can happen when a star is dying, because the gaseous and other volatile matter contained in it is getting exhausted. As we know, stars are bright burning objects in space and our Sun is also a star, source of light, energy, and sustenance for us inhabitants of this green planet.

When a dying star, which was perhaps burning for millions of years, explodes releasing a large mass of heat, energy and light, it simultaneously collapses and disappears into itself. So the shining, visible star becomes invisible, being absorbed within itself.

Self-realisation, as per the lexicon, is the awareness, recognition and fulfilment of one’s own potential, one’s own abilities. In philosophical and spiritual terms, it denotes a state in which individuals know who they truly are and attain fulfilment in that understanding. Often this leads to the comprehension that they are one with the omnipresent Divine that dwells within each and every living being.

We, humans, are a marvel of creation and are said to be the most evolved species on earth. It should be but natural for any individual to cogitate as to the meaning and purpose of existence. The thought then emerges is that the purpose of life is to discover the purpose of life. Effectually it implies Self-realisation, which is a gradual process of continued reflection, contemplation, introspection, self-analysis and self-evaluation. And as an individual progresses on the path of Self-realisation, in the process experiences heightened or sharper perspicuity and discernment. This induces a state of continued sublime bliss, since the individual develops equanimity in all circumstances, gets freedom from worries and fears, and can have balanced and composed interpersonal relations.

Deluded from our true identity, most of us often dissipate our energy in ceaseless pursuit of worldly, materialistic pleasures which are maya, illusory, in spiritual context. Rare are those, who like the tortoise withdraws its feet and head to retreat into its shell, disassociate from temporal, transient allurements and sensual pleasures to introspect and seek the sublime, innate bliss.

Having embarked on the path of Self-realisation, the individual channelises cognitive abilities towards comprehension of true, intrinsic value of self. Then having reached a state of equilibrium between self and the encompassing environment, the enlightened individual can aim for the pinnacle of Self-realisation which is merging self into Self. This is nothing else but the state of samadhi attained by the great yogis when their soul merges into the all-pervading Supreme Soul. The physical or mortal body becomes irrelevant as the life force, energy, vitality gets absorbed into the primordial original source of energy.

Is it not analogous to the Black Hole where the effulgent, blazing star earlier dispelling heat and light in external space, merges into itself, and all energy gets absorbed within itself? Human birth is said to be a rare privilege bestowed upon us, and if each individual were to strive even in a small measure, towards Self-realisation, shedding greed and hatred and developing tolerance and compassion, indeed the world would become utopian.
