A spiritual teacher plays a significant role in the life of an individual. The one privileged to have one such teacher, is assured of success in all spheres — worldly and spiritual. To gain the association or company of spiritual people is rare and difficult; even if we come into their orbit, we may not recognise their greatness and stature. Often, even people living with exalted masters are not aware of their glory.
However, one thing is definite, whether we recognise their greatness or not, the influence of such mahatmas is infallible. To not be affected by the contact of such noble souls is just not possible; their impact is unfailing.
There may be no immediate visible change, but one can be sure that, sooner or later, their influence will be discernible. Presently, we live in utter ignorance of our true nature, of the relationship between the individual, the world and the Creator (Ishwara) of both. We have wrong notions; misinterpret the world, commit various mistakes and, consequently, suffer unhappiness.
Great masters remove us from the darkness of ignorance and transport us into the sunlit field of knowledge; they transform our vision. When we study the scriptures, we discover that there is an absolute reality; we understand that God exists. Then, we are acquainted with the characteristics of an enlightened person. We cannot really appreciate the greatness of such exalted masters, until we are fortunate enough to observe their nature at close quarters. It is such sadhgurus that indicate to us the goal of human birth, which is, moksha.
