The Blind Watchmaker

British evolutionary biologist and atheist Richard Dawkins says in his book 'The Blind Watchmaker' that natural selection is a blind, unconscious and automatic process. It is the explanation for all forms of living creatures. But it has neither a purpose nor a pre-existing design in mind. That is to say that if there is a watchmaker in nature, he is blind.

In his answer to the question, 'Why do we exist?' Dawkins says that it is the result of natural selection, a process that is neither planned nor random, but guided inexorably over the ages, only by the process of evolution. A process in which there is no place for God or a Creator.

But the weak point in his reasoning is that he equates faith in God with Creationism. Creationists believe that all life forms are of irreducible complexity. They would not exist in a simpler form. Humans have evolved over billions of years of creation, to a stage where we question the purpose of our existence and our relationship with the whole observable universe.

The living world is so beautiful to behold: the myriad varieties of flowers, birds and fish. The complexity of creation is evidence of the existence of a divine entity. The existence of a precision chronometer can be possible only by an intelligent watchmaker. A watchmaker who is definitely not blind.
