Find out all the winners in every category at the Ballon d'Or 2019 awards!
The 2019 Ballon d’Or results are out, and Lionel Messi has become the best player in the world for a record six times in 10 years, beating out Liverpool’s Vilgil van Dijk, who came second. In addition to that, Megan Rapinoe is honoured with the Women’s Ballon d’Or, Alisson Becker has been named the best goalkeeper, and Matthijs de Ligt has won the the Kopa Award for young players.
- Ballon d’Or: A record sixth time within a decade, FC Barcelona talisman and Argentine superstar Lionel Messi has won the award, overcoming his Copa America blunders with consistently marvellous performance in La Liga. Virgil van Dijk came in second, followed by Cristiano Ronaldo in third and Sadio Mané in fourth.
- Ballon d’Or Féminin: United States international and Reign FC superstar Megan Rapinoe has been honoured as the 2019 Women’s Ballon d’Or winner. The 2019 Women’s World Cup winner beat out England’s Lucy Bronze, who came second. Megan’s compatriot Alex Morgan secured third place.
- Best goalkeeper: the Yachine trophy: The best shot stopper in the world is Liverpool’s Alisson Becker, who has been absolutely stunning for Klopp’s triumphant side. The Brazilian beat out Barça’s Marc-André ter Stegen in second place and Manchester City star and fellow Brazilian Ederson in third. The 2018 UEFA Champions League winner and 2019 Copa America winner was also ranked 7th in the Ballon d’Or list.
- Best young player: the Kopa Award: Young Dutch sensation Matthijs de Ligt has been awarded the Kopa Award as the best young player of 2019. The Juventus starlet beat out Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and Atlético Madrid’s João Félix in the second and third places respectively.
