India vs West Indies: Upset KL Rahul determined to be more patient with his innings

Indian opener KL Rahul, after being dismissed for 44 and 38 in each innings of the 1st Test against West Indies, claimed that he was disappointed with his game, but there are a lot of things he is doing right. In the press conference after Day three’s play, Rahul stated that “technique and everything is overrated” and that he needed to show some patience.

“Technique and everything are overrated – when you get runs everything looks good. So, it was important for me to spend time in the middle. (I am) very disappointed but there are a lot of things I’m doing right. Just need to keep my head down and show some patience,” Rahul said in the media conference.

The Karnataka batsman looked solid in the first innings until he was dismissed by Roston Chase registering 44 runs to his name, and on Saturday, Rahul failed to execute a paddle sweep against the same bowler, this time being dismissed for 38. His half-century in the single Test against Afghanistan and 149 against England last year, are the only success he has enjoyed in the longest format since the start of 2018.

The right-hander then added, “I just have to prolong the good things I’m doing till I get to 35-45. I’m batting well, I looked comfortable in both the innings and my head-space is very good. Happy about a lot of things. If I can keep my patience and keep batting the way I do in the first 60-80 balls, if I continue to do that for 200-250 balls then it’ll obviously benefit me and the team.”
