India's road to Qatar World Cup 2022 is out and here is everything you need to know!

The World Cup campaign for any country begins long before the 32 best teams in the world clash together in the most iconic public spectacle on Earth. It begins in their regional qualifiers and for a massive nation like India, it begins very soon.

The AFC joint qualifiers for FIFA World Cup 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 begins on September 5th for India in the round 2 qualifying stage.

Having drawn Asian Champions Qatar in pot 1 , Oman in pot 2, Afghanistan in pot 4 and Bangladesh in pot 5 , India look well poised to challenge for 2nd place in the group.

How many teams qualify from each group to round 3? All the first placed teams and the best 4 2nd placed teams.

How many teams qualify for AFC Asian Cup 2023 to be held in China? All the first and second placed teams in their respective groups.

Why is Qatar playing the qualifiers if they are the host? Because Qatar haven’t automatically qualified for AFC Asian cup and since it’s a joint qualifier Qatar have to play it. Qatar would get competitive games under their belt in this process in preparation for the WC.

Where will India play their home games ? It is undecided and AIFF will announce the venues soon.
