Knee and pitch conditions are problems for Cristiano Ronaldo, early substitution isn't

About a week ago, Juventus talisman Cristiano Ronaldo was accused of cussing Maurizio Sarri for an early substitution against Milan derby, which the maneger waived off suggesting the forward has been facing knee issues. Fast forward to yesterday’s Euro Qualifier against Luxembourg, the superstar takes a jab at the pitch conditions in Luxembourg City.

Sunday’s 2-0 victory at Stade Josy Barthel secured Fernando Santos and his side’s entry into the UEFA Euro 2020. In addition to Bruno Fernandes’s 39th minute opener, a late minute goal tallied Ronaldo’s goals in the international jersey to 99, but the Bianconeri hit man isn’t happy with the win.

“It was difficult to play on a pitch like this, which was like a real potato field. I don’t know how matches of this level can be played on pitches like that.” the 34 year said in the post match interview.

Leading Portugal to lift the 2016 Euro Cup trophy, Ronaldo addressed that he wasn’t satisfied with the team’s overall performance, despite a victory.

“It wasn’t a good spectacle but we did our job… I’m looking forward to my fifth European Championship.” he added.

On 12th November against Milan, Ronaldo was caught on camera, apparently jeering at Sarri for getting subbed for Dybala in the 55th minute, but later cleared up on the issue stating that he is not feeling 100% on the pitch.

“In the last three weeks, I have been playing with limitations. But there was no controversy — you (the media) created that”  Ronaldo told the reporters post match.
