INGREDIENTS

250 gm pearl millet

50 gm urad dal

50 gm toor daal

50 gm rice

20 gm ghee

0 salt as required

2 gm cumin seeds

50 gm onion

50 gm tomato

5 gm green chilli

How to make Urad Bajra Khichdi

Step 1

Sprinkle some water on the whole bajra and set it aside for an hour. Slightly crush bajra using the mortar and pestle to loosen out the husk. Then take out the bajra in a plate, gently crush with your hands then the bajra husk is removed by winnowing.

Step 2

Wash the Urad Dal whole, Arhar dal & rice, keep it aside. Now just add the ready bajra and rest to a pot with 4 cups of water and salt in the pressure cooker and cook for 5 whistles on medium heat or cook till done. If required cook it more on slow flame and mash it slightly.

Step 3

In a separate pan add ghee, pop in some cumin seeds once start crackle add chopped onion cook till translucent then add chopped tomatoes cook it further then add it to cooked bajra mixture. If required add more hot water to adjust the consistency and then simmer for 10 minutes.

Step 4

Serve hot with lots of ghee on top. Bajra khichdi is best served with ghee on top or buttermilk.
