5 Alternatives to Rs 4.5 lakh Ultraviolette F77 electric motorcycle

After five years of intense research and testing, Bengaluru-based start-up, Ultraviolette Automotive finally launched its debut sports bike and also India’s fastest electric bike. the F77.

As cool as its name is, the F77 also sounds quite exciting on paper for an electric proposition. Numbers like 307 km of IDC range, 152 km/hr top speed, and an acceleration performance of 0-60 km/hr in 2.9 seconds are just the tip of the iceberg.

However, like all electric vehicles, the F77 is also dependent on an-yet-to–be-developed proper infrastructure.

So until that infrastructure develops completely, the F77’s full feasibility potential will, of no fault of its own, fall short. Especially, when compared to ICE-powered bikes, like the ones mentioned below:

KTM Duke, ADV and RC 390KTM’s 373 cc single-cylinder engine is one of the most exciting powerhouses in the sub-400 cc segment. All three, RC 390, ADV 390, and the Duke 390 are powered by this same engine that produces 43 hp at 9000 RPM and 37 Nm of peak torque at 7000 RPM. The Ultraviolette F77 does offer the benefit of 85 Nm of peak torque with the base Original variant, and the mid-spec Recon variant produces 95 Nm of peak torque. However, it’s in the range that the KTM motorcycles get the edge over the F77, coupled with the benefit of quick refueling.

Kawasaki Ninja 400Nothing beats the joy of driving a parallel-twin motorcycle, and if it's a Kawasaki then the deal becomes sweeter. The entry-level Ninja 400 is the segment leader in this case, and for a change, its premium ex-showroom price of Rs 4.99 lakh, suddenly feels achievable when compared to the UV F77’s Rs 4.5 lakh ex-showroom price. Much like KTM’s the Ninja 400 also produces 37 Nm of peak torque but at 8000 RPM, and 44 hp at 10,000 RPM.

Keeway V302CThe Keeway V302C was recently launched in the Indian market. This V-Twin-powered motorcycle definitely sets the charm with its bulk proportions and cruiser stylings. Ex-showroom price for the Keeway V302 starts from Rs 4.09 lakhs. So, when you compare it to the UV F77 it costs Rs 41,000 less. And coupled with a 15 -litre fuel tank, the range will also be more than the electric F77.

Zontes GK350The GK350 was one of the five motorcycles that Chinese-based automaker Zontes launched in India this year, in partnership with Adishwar Auto Ride India Pvt. Ltd. (the brand also retails Benelli, and Keeway). Prices for the neo-retro cafe racer Zontes GK350 starts from Rs 3.47 lakh, which is almost Rs 1 lakh cheaper than the UV F77. As for its performance, the 349 cc , single-cylinder engine produces 38 hp at 9000 RPM and 32.8 Nm of peak torque.

Royal Enfield Continental GT 650We picked the Continental GT 650 over the Interceptor for its sportier seating style when compared to the UV F77. However, both the Interceptor 650 and Continental GT 650 have been quite the VFM product from Royal Enfield. In fact, these 650 cc, parallel-twin models are the most affordable parallel-twins, 650 cc motorcycles in India.

Which one of the above will you choose instead of the UV F77? Or would you still go for the Ultraviolette? Let us know in the comment section.
