Bengaluru: Sitting BJP MLC Puttanna resigns from party, joins Congress

Bengaluru: Sitting BJP Bengaluru MLC Puttana on Thursday resigned from the party and joined Congress. "Today I have resigned from the BJP primary membership and MLC position," Puttanna said, adding, 'I wholeheartedly trust in the Congress party.'

Puttanna further blamed the BJP administration for its failure to reform the education sector.

"I have been elected four times from Bangalore Teachers Constituency. The situation was dead there. The government has not done any work to solve the problem of the education sector. Two people committed suicide during the teachers' protest at Freedom Park. But the government has not responded in any way," he said.

Puttanna added that 'it felt wrong on his conscience' to remain with the BJP.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president DK Sivakumar, while addressing a press conference spoke about Puttanna joining the Grand Old Party and noted that he 'joined the Congress party after observing the BJP administration in the state'.

Puttanna joined Congress in the presence of KPCC President DK Shivakumar, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Karnataka Assembly, Siddaramaiah, Randeep Singh Surjewala, DK Suresh, Priyanka Kharge, and Salim Ahmed.
