BJP loses MCD: What does MCD election result mean for the Bharatiya Janata Party?


New Delhi: MCD Election result: Emerging trends are hinting towards a victory for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the Delhi MCD election 2022. At the time of this report, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was trailing behind the Aam Aadmi Party by about 31 wards in the Delhi MCD election results today.

The results of the Delhi MCD elections are a mixed bag of signals for the BJP which has been wrestling to regain power in the national capital not only in the MCDs but even in the Assembly, where it has been unable to return to power since 1998, when Sushma Swaraj was the chief minister of Delhi.

The dissolution and merger of the three Municipal Corporations of Delhi - North Delhi Municipal Corporation, East Delhi Municipal Corporation and South Delhi Municipal Corporation - via Delhi Municipal Corporation (Amendment) Bill, may have backfired for the BJP which was in power in the MCD.

The results of MCD elections also raises on the delimitation exercise, which had invited severe criticism from AAP. Slamming the move, Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia had said that the BJP has done the delimitation but the people of Delhi have decided to bring Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to the civic body.

Emerging trend shows that the BJP is heading towards a defeat in the MCD elections 2022. The party, however, has compared the outcome of Delhi MCD elections to the Delhi Assembly election 2020 result. BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla said that the mandate in Delhi MCD election result today is a vote against AAP's 'dismal performance' in Delhi government. Citing that AAP, which won 54 per cent vote share in the Delhi Assembly elections 2020 is down by 12 per cent
, Poonawalla said that the BJP, on the other hand has increased its vote share by 1 per cent.

Analysts are already busy claiming that the AAP is emerging as an alternative to the BJP. Though a local body result, the MCD election result may bolster the confidence of AAP, which has already been wrestling for power against the BJP in other key elections such as the Gujarat Assembly Elections 2022 and Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections 2022.



Results for Gujarat Assembly election 2022 and Himachal Pradesh Assembluy election 2022 result will be declared on Thursday, December 8.
