Delhi weather today: IMD issues 'yellow alert'; no change of guard ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'yellow' alert, warning people to expect moderate rain in most parts and heavy rains at a few places in Delhi on Saturday.

The change of guard ceremony, which takes place every Saturday at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan, will not take place today due to inclement weather conditions.

As incessant rain lashed the national capital for a second consecutive day on Friday, several key road stretches were dotted with puddles of water.

Due to heavy rains, drivers were forced to navigate waterlogged roads and stretches obstructed by fallen trees.

The Delhi Traffic Police issued an alert, advising commuters to plan their journeys accordingly.

"Waterlogging has been observed near Hanuman Setu on Shanti van to Hanuman Mandir Carriageway, Libaspur underpass, Maharani Bagh Taimur Nagar cut, CDR Chowk, Mehrauli towards Gurugram, Andheria More towards Vasant Kunj, under Nizamuddin bridge, Singhu Border near petrol pump, MB Road towards Sainik Farm carriageway," it tweeted, urging commuters to avoid these stretches.

Traffic police reported receiving 19 calls regarding traffic congestion, 11 about waterlogging, and 22 about fallen trees.

A total of 12 waterlogging complaints and 16 of uprooted trees were reported to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.

Some commuters also shared their traffic experiences on Twitter.

In just 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Friday, Delhi recorded more than half of the average rainfall in September, swinging from a deficit to a surplus.

Meanwhile, a senior civic official said that a portion of a parapet above the first floor of a building in MCD-run Hindu Rao Hospital collapsed on Friday. The incident, however, did not result in any injuries. A car was damaged when a portion of the debris fell on it. The exact cause of the collapse was not immediately known.
