DU UG Admission 2023: Delhi University Changes Norms For ECA, Sports Supernumerary Seats

Delhi University has made certain changes in the UG Admissions 2023 for ECA and Sports supernumerary seats. This year, both the categories will be given 2.5 percent supernumerary seats each as per PTI report.

The officials told PTI that these norms have been rejigged and now the number of seats under the two categories will now be calculated programme wise and not college wise.

The supernumerary seats are those seats that are over and above the intake approved by an authority of the university.

As of now a motion has been passed in the last week's meeting of DU's Academic Council and the final call will be taken by the Executive Council.

The decision to decide the number of ECA or sports category admissions with a ceiling cap of 5 per cent of total intake capacity was until now the choice of the colleges. Each category must have at least 1 percent representation.

“The ceiling is 5 per cent of the total intake capacity of the college in total for ECA and sports together. An equal weightage of 2.5 per cent each will be given to sports and ECA. Until now, it was upon colleges to decide how much weightage they wish to give ECA or sports varying from 1 to 4 per cent.” DU Dean of Admission Haneet Gandhi said to PTI

The dean believes that this will help bring parity and calculation of number of seats will be done under both categories programme wise
