Fight against coronavirus: PM Narendra Modi's mother Heeraben contributes to PM-CARES Fund

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother, Heeraben, 98, has donated Rs 25,000 from her personal savings to PM-CARES Fund for tackling the coronavirus outbreak. The prime minister's nonagenarian mother has always led a simple life and prefers staying at her residence near Gandhinagar in Gujarat and not at Prime Minister's residential-office complex, located at Lok Kalyan Marg in the national capital.

The (Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations) Fund was launched by PM Modi on March 28. PM Modi has urged people to make donations to support the government in the fight against coronavirus. 

"Prime Minister's Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund has been constituted. This will go a long way in creating a healthier India. People from all walks of life can donate to this fund," Modi wrote on Twitter.

"It is my appeal to my fellow Indians, kindly contribute to the PM-CARES Fund. This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations if they occur in the times ahead," he tweeted.

Several famous industrialists, ministers, sports personalities and actors have donated to PM-CARES Fund.

Many industrialists, including Mukesh Ambani, has generously donated to PM-CARES Fund to help the government tackle the coronavirus pandemic. Mukesh Ambani-led Reliance Industries Ltd. (RIL) has pledged Rs 500 crore assistance to PM-CARES Fund

Akshay Kumar, Bhushan Kumar, Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma, Suresh Raina and several other personalities from the field of sports and entertainment have contributed to PM CARES-Fund.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Rajya Sabha MP and boxing champion Mary Kom, Union Minister of Defence Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Minister Santosh Gangwar have donated to fight COVID-19
