Manama: A video showing a burqa-clad woman slamming Ganesha idols on the floor in a supermarket in Bahrain has gone viral on social media. After much outrage, local authorities initiated legal action against her and referred her to public prosecution.
In the viral video, two women can be seen arguing with an employee of the supermarket in Juffair and objecting to the idols of Hindu god Ganpati kept on the display ahead of the upcoming Ganesh Chaturthi festival. One of the women then goes on to pick up the Ganesha idols and slam them on the floor one by one.
While she destroys the idols, the woman purportedly says, "This is Mohamed ben Issa's country, do you think he approved of this? This is a Muslim country, correct?"

Royal advisor Khaled bin Ahmed Al Khalifa condemned the act and called it a "hate crime".
"Destroying religious symbols is not part of the nature of the Bahraini people. It’s a crime that exposes alien and rejected hate," said Al Khalifa in a tweet.
