Mateo Diaz: 14-Year-Old Dies While Practicing Motocross In Texas, GoFundMe Launched

Fourteen-year-old motocross enthusiast Mateo Diaz tragically lost his life after a fatal collision while practicing at 3 Palms in Conroe, Texas. The devastating accident occurred on March 20, 2024, a Wednesday, and Mateo passed away two days later. However, amidst their grief, his parents made a remarkable decision that would potentially save another parent from the anguish of losing their child—they chose to donate Mateo's organs.

Mateo, who hailed from Mexico, traveled to the United States with his family to pursue his passion for motocross. He had participated in two motocross national races at Freestone and Oakhill, as well as the Great American Team Race at 3 Palms, all within the recent weekend. His ambition was to qualify for Loretta's, a significant event in the motocross world, and he had set his sights on beginning this journey with the local qualifier at 3 Palms in just two weeks' time.

Efforts were mobilized to raise funds to support Mateo's family in covering various expenses such as burial arrangements, travel costs, and medical bills. Unfortunately, it came to our attention that despite having insurance coverage, it did not extend to international medical expenses. Therefore, the family was heavily reliant on the support of everyone in that difficult time.

Mateo was rushed to The Woodlands hospital via ambulance, where he underwent critical brain surgery. Subsequently, he was airlifted to Children's Memorial Herman in Houston, Texas for further medical care. Once the organ donation process was completed, Mateo's remains were cremated, repatriated to Mexico, and laid to rest beside his paternal grandmother.

It was imperative that we rallied together to provide financial assistance to Mateo's family during that challenging period. Contributions went a long way in alleviating the burden of those unexpected expenses and supporting the family as they navigated through that heartbreaking loss.
