Nidhi Bisht Reveals Law Background, Says She Never Went To District Court Before Maamla Legal Hai | Exclusive

Nidhi Bisht has worked behind-the-scenes in several roles on several The Viral Fever series. She was a casting director, writer and director. These days, we know Bisht from her acting roles in shows and films like Permanent Roommates, Tripling, Dream Girl, Cubicles and now Maamla Legal Hai

. But before that, Bisht pursued the law in Delhi. The actress recalled her short time going to Delhi High Court before she joined the entertainment industry. Here's what she had to say!

Maamla Legal Hai's Nidhi Bisht on her law backgroundWhile speaking with Zoom, Bisht revealed that she had studied law as a student in Delhi, but it gave her no extra edge before she joined the Netflix courtroom drama. She said, "I practiced for almost a year plus in Delhi High Court. So, as you must be knowing that Delhi High court, Supreme Court, it is a very English-speaking culture and for lack of a better word, bahut
hoity-toity crowd hai woh. During those two years, mera kabhi district court jaane ka kabhi vaasta hua nahin tha. And I'm speaking from a place of privilege. When I got a call for Maamla Legal Hai, I thought that these guys know that I have a law background. But then when I started reading it, I thought ' Arre, bahut mehnat karni padegi yeh toh.'"


In fact, Bisht's character Sujata Negi aka Sujata Didi avoids stepping into the courtroom altogether. Until she gets a case that compels her to fight for it personally, involving a parrot charged with obscenity for swearing that their neighbour. In the show, Sujata Didi also takes the newcomer to District Court Patparganj, Ananya Shroff, played by Ananya Shroff, under her wing.

Nidhi Bisht on the chemistry between Maamla Legal Hai castLed by actor Ravi Kishan who plays Advocate VD Tyagi, Maamla Legal Hai is a ensemble comedy is the truest sense of the word. Bisht and Grewal credited the writers Saurabh Khanna and Kunal Aneja for doing most of the work on paper. The actresses also revealed that a workshop held by the director Rahul Pandey helped the cast get their close bond in place before the series began filming.

Bisht stated, "The majority of the things that make you laugh, chuckle or think were already written by our fantastic writers. Before we started shooting only, Rahul Pandey, our director, said we should do a workshop for a minimum of a week, with the core idea that these guys know each other for at least 10 plus years. Hum jab set pe milenge ek dusre se toh aisa lagna nahin chahiye... apart from Naila's Ananya Shroff who is the point of the audience also because wahin se show shuru hota hain, unke andar aane se
."

The workshop allowed the actors to establish their relationships with one another and they worked on getting the pitch right during that time. The cast also worked on any improvisations then only, they were that much in sync with one another. Calling the comedy situations in the series "script-controlled chaos", Bisht added, "You just have to learn your lines and react." Be on time, learn your lines and come. Jo aapko directions mile, you follow them properly and play off each other's energy and I think the magic recipe I have shared with you."

Maamla Legal Hai, which is created by Sameer Saxena, premiered on March 1. All eight episodes are now streaming on Netflix.
