NYC Protests: Demonstrators Gather Outside Chuck Schumer's House, Block Roads In Brooklyn

Hundreds of pro-Palestine protesters gathered outside Senate Leader Chuck Schumer's house hours after he made comments on the Foreign Aid Bill. The angry group of demonstrators was seen chanting pro-Palestine slogans and demanded an end to supplying armaments to Israel. This comes as the US Senate reached one step closer to passing the contentious bill that would open the gates of further aiding Israel, Ukraine, and a few other countries marred in conflicts.

The protesters shut down the street in the Brooklyn neighbourhood where the Senator lives.

Without fearing the risk of arrests, the protesters even marched on the streets demanding a ceasefire in Gaza apart from their need to "stop arming Israel." Earlier, the Senate’s Democratic leader spoke from the chamber’s floor thanking Speaker Johnson and other members for showing bipartisanship. Sen. Schumer made comments in the aftermath of lawmakers voting overwhelmingly to advance the $95b bill authorizing military aid to countries such as Israel.

The contentious bill was opposed by many including Speaker Johnson. But the speaker of the house softened his stance earlier this month by allowing the aid bill to be voted on in the House.

“Today’s outcome yet confirms another thing we’ve stressed from the beginning of this Congress. In divided government, the only way to ever get things done is bipartisanship,” Schumer said during his address to the House.

Meanwhile, Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi reiterated what Sen. Schumer remarked about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu a month ago. Pelosi called the Israeli leader an obstacle to a two-state solution while calling for his resignation. Schumer, who is the highest-ranking Jewish official in the US, also demanded that Israel hold a new election once the war in Gaza comes to an end.
